To really, really get the Russian thinking frameset one should make a quick time jump to about twenty years back. Eighteen year to be exact since the collapse of the Soviet Union. Most of the Russian adults were born in another country – Soviet Union. And to set the record clear: Soviet Union before and Russia now two generations later are so distinguishly different, that we may call one geographical place two completely separate countries. Historically very few nations and countries were able to create their own distinct overarching cultures. Actually you can count them on on hand: Western or European culture that includes United States and Latin American as a subset. No one will argue that French and Argentinean are very different in a lot of ways, however they are more similar to each other then different when compared to Chinese. They believe in the same set of values, the same set of morals. Gender based issues are resolved within the same framework. Then there is Muslim culture and a way of living, Asian or eastern cultures and first people native cultures. Soviet Union was able to create it is own distinct culture that would not fall under any of the described sets. So many of the currently living Russians who were brought by the Soviet parents relate to the each other and make everyday decisions based on completely different comprehension of the world than a Westerner or Asian. After the collapse of the Soviet Union this quite “cultural war” was abandon and Russia strides towards adapting many Western values. This creates very interesting and often fascinating approach to life from Russians. Nevertheless Soviet Union will be remembered simply because so many cultural masterpieces were created during its existence. Soviet movies and songs, rock bands, poets and painters are universally loved and remembered by new generations.
