Russian traditional medicinal practices.
Before following any of these advices consult your doctor.
Folk Russian cultural philosophy believes in prevention of diseases before they start. The whole array of simple procedures that can promote health was developed and refined throughout ages. Russians believe that one of the most pleasant and simple ways to increase your health is weekly visits to Russian banya (баня ) or sauna. One of the main features that will promote your health will be going from a hot dry or hot steam room and dipping yourself into iced cold water for a few seconds. If you can’t find a Russian banya on your block, you can do it in your shower. Simply stand under hot water for a few minutes, when ready switch water to be cold for a few seconds. Then go back to hot shower. The theory states that the sudden change of body temperatures will train and condition your immune system. Majority of western doctors never heard of these practices and will probably advice you against it. However it is becoming an increasingly popular practice in recent times known to the western audience as hydrotherapy or “contrast showers”. Additionally many Russian women report amazing results with their skin rejuvenation after practicing weekly trips to banya.
